OnStream, a UK based National Grid company, has announced their selection of Telenor Connexion to link up their new, mobile communications-based gas and electricity meters.
The company’s smart grid has been designed to enable low levels of power consumption and includes the ability to communicate with smart appliances. The 24 month collaboration between OnStream and Telenor Connexion for the UK roll-out, included development and extensive piloting in multiple markets.
Speaking about the technological development underpinning the utility company’s smart-grid, Dean Woods, Head of Region UK & Ireland at Telenor Connexion said, “OnStream’s high quality solution will play a part in the development of smart metering deployment in the UK over the coming years. The new connected smart meters are significant in the development towards making smart grids a reality.”
At the European Smart Metering Awards earlier this year OnStream was awarded both “Metering Manufacturer & Technology of the Year” and “Innovation of the Year” for their connected smart meters.
OnStream has already installed more than 95,000 smart meters in homes and businesses throughout the UK and National Grid plays a vital role in providing energy to millions of customers across Great Britain and the north-east of the USA.
