Toyota have unveiled their latest concept car, the Fun-Vii which stands for ‘vehicle interactive internet’, just prior to the Tokyo Motor show.
The three-seater, Fun-Vii’s skin is actually a massive, touch-screen display which can be changed to suit the owner’s mood. It uses next generation technology to connect to the internet, greets its owner with a personalised message and can be unlocked with a gesture of the hand.
“It’s a four-wheeled smart phone”, said company president Akio Toyoda said, “A car must appeal to our emotions. If it’s not fun, it’s not a car.”
The app controlled, customisable graphics are not limited to the exterior of the vehicle either. Large interior displays will add augmented reality elements to the driver’s view of the road in front and also change the theme of the interior to suit his or her mood.
The internet connectivity will enable the Fun-Vii to deliver tailored location information and entertainment to each of its three individual passengers and connect it to a network of other vehicles.
More sensible inclusions will be automated remote diagnostics, delivered in real-time to the local dealership and enhanced safety features such as sensors for road-hazards and monitoring of other motorist’s proximity and activity.
But we won’t worry about that. Here at M2M Now, we are just looking forward to being able to send a very large, personalised message to that person riding too close to our rear bumper.
