Wyless SDP wins Frost & Sullivan Award for new product innovation

End users can use Wyless’ open platform to directly interface with management services without having to heavily invest in similar platforms from mobile network operators.

Based on its recent analysis of the market for service delivery platform (SDPs) for machine to machine (M2M) communication systems, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Wyless with the 2011 European Frost & Sullivan Award for New Product Innovation. The Wyless SDP, Porthos, is exceptional in its provision of a managed services overlay that facilitates the connection between enterprises and mobile operators.

The overlay makes this product an open platform and does away with the rigidity that is the so often the norm with other SDPs. The platform allows the end user to remotely access their assets through 200 networks worldwide, in over 120 countries.

With several mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) delivering SDPs to the M2M market, it is crucial to evaluate the unique innovative element of the major SDPs. Porthos’ value-added features include low-cost, web-based interfaces, remote monitoring and management and portability.

“Since Porthos is a web-based platform, it can be accessed from virtually anywhere by any portable device,” said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Rinita Sen.” A part of the user interface (UI) design was created by making it simpler from an HTML standpoint, so that it could be easily used on devices such as iPhones and iPads.”

Other important features of this platform include an alerting system with a geo-fencing feature that alerts the end user of devices moving between geographical locations. Additionally, an already rich API has been further enhanced for introducing additional flexibility in management functionalities.

Wyless’ Porthos is available to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and application service providers (ASPs) as a managed service. It is a feature-heavy platform that includes a loaded user interface, and is based on Wyless’ patented methods of IP addressing across multiple networks.

The patents are mainly centred on the interaction between the platform and the network, and form a strong basis for the software platform that sits on top of the managed network. This patented technology is the core of Porthos, as the main aim of this platform is to be able to connect the devices of end users through multi-carrier mobile networks.

“SDPs remove the complexities of device configuration, provisioning, billing and troubleshooting, while simultaneously reducing the system costs by facilitating remote access to the network and device diagnostics,” noted Sen. “Porthos has successfully lowered the service and maintenance costs, eased network management and consequently, increased customers’ ROI.”

Wyless’ platform has been used by some of the leading companies, in several different M2M verticals such as monitoring and control, fleet management and healthcare. Wyless’ platform works as a value-added layer between the large enterprises and network operators.
