Tackling the Smart Grid Value Challenge:Managing Utility and Industry Complexity
The utility industry is facing complexity on two levels. The external complexities of a changing energy industry — including policy uncertainty and the falling price of natural gas — as well as the internal complexities of managing their own Smart Grid systems — complete with a broader system view, big data, and cyber security challenges.
Today’s utility professionals are buried in the day-to-day challenges of managing new Smart Grid systems, while evaluating Smart Grid’s future amidst changing industry dynamics.
GridWeek will explore how — despite complexity — utilities can derive value from: (1) existing Smart Grid systems and (2) future Smart Grid investments. These issues will be explored in tracks dedicated to:
– Big drivers, including global and industry challenges and opportunities
– Utility business, including intra-utility challenges, such as value creation, new business models, and managing system complexity
– Showcase, providing a closeup view of Smart Grid progress to date
