Avnet Embedded to represent Intel Centrino Embedded Wireless modules in Europe

Supports Wi-Fi growth in embedded systems; ‘connect from anywhere’ flexibility

Avnet Embedded in EMEA, an Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT) company, has announced that it has updated its franchise distribution agreement adding Intel® wireless modules to its portfolio of embedded products available to European designers. In embedded applications, the flexibility to ‘connect from anywhere’ drives new products and markets, and with this signing, Avnet Embedded will be able to offer a broad range of wireless adapters to suit all applications.

Avnet Embedded is offering Intel® Centrino® Embedded Wireless half mini-card PCIe modules supplied ready for systems such as laptops, embedded PCs and the broad range of machine to machine devices. Complementing Avnet Embedded’s existing range of 3G products, these Intel cards offer significant connectivity options from economical single stream products to 3×3 multi-stream and dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) devices. Therefore, Avnet Embedded can now offer 802.11n throughput options from 150Mbps through to 450Mbps, while also supporting legacy protocols and data rates of 802.11abg.

The Intel® Centrino® Embedded Wireless PCI Express cards are available with support for variety of operating systems including Linux, Windows 7 and Windows 7 for Embedded Systems, with support for Windows 8 planned. Adding to Avnet Embedded’s strong capability in Bluetooth applications, Intel PCI express modules are available with integrated Bluetooth 4.0 / SMART ReadyTM support.

Alastair Worth, marketing director, wireless at Avnet Embedded comments: “Intel’s wireless adapters save time by delivering data more quickly. They provide greater coverage through the use of multiple-spatial streams, and improved connectivity through objects like doors and walls is assured. We know that design engineers will conceive innovative new ideas to embed Wi-Fi connectivity within their products and we are delighted to be able to add this leading name to our technology portfolio. “

Simon Wilyman (EMEA Embedded Broadmarket Sales Director) at Intel adds: “Avnet Embedded has the proven experience and technical expertise to help customers Wi-Fi enable embedded devices spanning a wide range of industry segments. It is an exciting time as more and more previously stand-alone devices and application become part of the ‘connect from anywhere’ movement and we need strong partners like Avnet Embedded to help us reach the widest possible market.”
