PISCATAWAY, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–IEEE, the world’s largest professional organization advancing technology for humanity, today announced that the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) will host an Internet of Things (IoT) Workshop, 5-6 November 2013 in Silicon Valley, Calif. During the two-day event, attendees will explore the dynamics of the IoT markets and the convergence of platforms and services, with a special focus on the need for an even more interdisciplinary approach to the design of products and services for the IoT markets.

“The great promise of the Internet of Things is about the transformation of the world based on the convergence of numerous disjointed systems into a fully connected environment where complex tasks are synchronized and performed by a unified platform,” said Oleg Logvinov, member of the IEEE-SA Standards Board, member of the IEEE-SA Corporate Advisory Group, and director of market development, Industrial and Power Conversion Division with STMicroelectronics. “During the workshop in Silicon Valley, we will explore how various technologies can be applied across multiple verticals and how convergence is fueling IoT’s endless potential and opportunities.”

With the expectation that 50 to 100 billion “things” will be electronically connected via the Internet by the year 2020, the IEEE-SA has published dozens of standards related to IoT and has several development projects that focus on its future. This two-day workshop will gather global IoT experts, leaders and other participants to explore new technologies, IEEE standards, applications and future business models that enable the growth and development of the industry.

Following successful IoT workshops in Shenzhen, China and Milan, Italy, the Silicon Valley event will feature keynote speakers, group discussions and showcase a variety of IoT-related products and innovations presented by industry leading companies.
