Numerex Corp, a leading provider of on-demand and interactive M2M enterprise solutions, announced the purchase of the assets and business of AVIDwireless, including intellectual property and know-how, that will support the development of Numerex next-generation M2M platforms and managed services.
AVIDwireless’s expertise and technologies have been implemented in several attractive M2M market segments such as oil field site management systems; intelligent tracking; wireless temperature monitoring; wireless tank and well monitoring; and intermodal system and asset tracking.
Ease-of-use and rapid deployment are key attributes of AVIDwireless development initiatives that are provided through plug-and-play wireless remote control and monitoring solutions.
These include smart devices, such as the intelligent wireless controller AVIDdirector®, integrated with the flexible AVIDdirector M2M Application Framework, and are ideally suited for a variety of Numerex managed services programs.
Numerex will benefit from a mature and proven set of embedded hardware and software platforms that are both versatile and robust, with a track record of successful technical execution spanning many years.
“This transaction gives us access to an extensive Java-based library of device applications, drivers, portal and platform manager on which to build our various technological enhancements centered on Numerex FAST®, our Service Delivery Platform,” said Dr. Jeffrey O. Smith, chief innovation and technology officer of Numerex.
In addition, AVIDwireless brings to Numerex a talented team of engineers, technicians, and project management professionals who have efficiently and effectively delivered a host of M2M solutions.
The acquisition of AVIDwireless will have minimal financial impact to Numerex in the first year of operations. In addition to intellectual property and know-how, the company received AVIDwireless’s product lines, certain prior art, and several customer contracts.
