M2M Innovation World Congress launches in Nice for 'a fresh look at M2M opportunities'

Nice, France. March 26, 2013 — A new event, M2M Innovation World Congress (Nice, September 24-26, 2013) has been launched to explore the most innovative M2M services in sectors such as smart grids, retail and consumer electronics as well as other industry verticals with high potential.

Held within World Smart Week, the congress’ first distinctive features have just been unveiled, including the first keynotes, and a visit to a pioneer solar-energy smart grid.

M2M Innovation World Congress will tackle topical machine-to-machine (M2M) issues from the point of view of the end-customer. Over 40 speakers have been selected by its Programme Committee, and the speakers will review use cases, decrypt the value chain, unveil innovations and discuss new business opportunities.

Focusing on applications rather than technologies, the conference will address the market that today totals over 100 million sensors, vending machines, smart meters and other connected devices, all communicating automatically. By 2020, this figure is estimated to reach 50 billion. On the way to this real ‘Internet of things’, M2M implementations in the public and private sectors already show clear benefits such as reduced operational costs, improved service quality, competitive edge, better informed decision-making, and new revenue sources. These M2M services will be assessed and discussed during 2.5 days at the conference.

First Congress highlights unveiled

Some of the distinctive features of the conference programme have been revealed:

– the Plenary Opening will tackle the challenge of Streamlining the M2M Value-Chain. Built in partnership with M2M Now, this half-day session on September 24 will feature insightful keynotes and a panel discussion led by Jeremy Cowan, Editorial Director of M2M Now.

– Two Keynotes are already confirmed: Jürgen Hase, vice president M2M Competence Center, Deutsche Telekom; and Scott W. Kurth, director, Accenture Technology Visio. Executive speakers from Wyless and Wind River are to be announced shortly.

– Exclusive to the Congress, the first ‘Live Experience’ session – a series of hands-on, workshops, private visits – has now been confirmed: the NICE GRID Tour will allow the participants to discover on-site a pioneer solar-energy smart grid that is said to be unique in the world owing to its scale and ambition.
