Scott Hughes appointed vice-president of finance at On-Ramp Wireless to manage growth in Asia

Business Wire) — On-Ramp Wireless, developer of wireless solutions for energy automation and M2M communications, has announced that Scott Hughes, has joined the company as vice-president of Finance. Mr. Hughes will oversee On-Ramp’s financial, investor relations, and human resources functions.

Scott Hughes brings over 23 years of experience to the company, with a strong knowledge of the enterprise hardware networking segment and semiconductor design lifecycle. He is said to have deep experience in international markets, specifically Asia, which is a focus area for On-Ramp Wireless’s growth. He is also an experienced finance and business planning executive with significant experience in both start-up and Fortune 500 environments.

“On-Ramp recently raised a total of US$31 million in our Series C funding round to enable us to connect the Internet of Things. As we continue to commercialise our utility and oil & gas solutions and aggressively expand into new markets, Scott’s vast expertise in finance and business planning will be of great value to us,” said Kevin Hell, president and CEO, On-Ramp Wireless.

Mr. Hughes has held numerous executive roles in his career. He joins On-Ramp from RealEC Corporation where he was senior vice-president of operations. Prior to that Mr. Hughes was chief financial officer for Solarflare, a designer of high speed networking equipment. At Solarflare he was responsible for the company’s finance, human resources, legal, and information technology functions. He led the closing of over $200 million in financing from venture capital and strategic sources. He also negotiated and led the sale of Solarflare’s PHY business to Marvel Technology Group and played a key role in their 2006 merger with L5 Networks.

Earlier in his career Mr. Hughes held executive level positions in both operations and human resources at Quantum, Western Digital and Hewitt Associates (acquired by AON). He was also an entrepreneur and co-founded a digital media startup. Mr. Hughes has both a Masters and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Stanford University.

The On-Ramp Wireless Network enables low-power monitoring and management applications within smart grid, oil and gas operations, water efficiency, industrial sensing, and location tracking.
