Shanghai,China — Quectel Wireless Solutions, a global supplier of GSM/GPRS, UMTS/HSPA/LTE and GNSS modules, solutions and services, has announced its UC15 module, the latest UMTS/HSDPA module featuring a maximum data rate of 3.6Mbps downlink and 384Kbps uplink in the LCC castellation packaging.

Designed to be compatible with Quectel GSM/GPRS M10 and M12 module in the compact and unified form factor, UC15 module provides a flexible and scalable platform for migrating from GSM/GPRS/EDGE to UMTS/HSDPA. This enables integrators and developers to design their applications once and take advantage of worldwide coverage and service flexibility afforded by the combination of the two most prevalent cellular technologies worldwide.

UC15 module supports Over Temperature and Voltage Protection with a supply range of 3.3V~4.3V. It integrates with a rich set of Internet protocols, industry-standard interfaces (USB/UART/ADC/Status Indicator/PCM) and abundant functionalities (USB drivers for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows CE, Linux, Android/eCall), extending the applicability of the module to a wide range of M2M applications.

In addition, UC15 supports firmware over-the-air (FOTA), enabling remote updates of data and applications, which are crucial for keeping M2M solutions current over the long life of applications. For easy integration with high level operating systems, UC15 includes cellular modem (RIL) device drivers for most operating system platforms.

“The UC15 module is a product that takes full advantage of M2M technology to address increasing market demand,” said Jaron Xu, Quectel marketing director. “It is characterised by low power consumption, 3.5mA at the sleep mode and 520mA at the maximum in UMTS mode. Sharing nearly the same compact footprint as Quectel’s M10 and M12 GPRS Class-12 module, UC15 module enables network migration within a single design while ensuring long-lasting, future-proof applications. With the most competitive pricing, UC15 module is the right choice for our customers.”

UC15 module is suitable for smart metering, mobile Point of Sale (POS) terminals, fleet management, security system, routers and data cards, industrial PDA & modem, and mobile computing due to its extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C combined with the small and robust 68-Pin-LCC-Package.

UC15 module is available from March, 2014 with a range of development tools and associated documentation. Engineering design samples are available now.
