Farsens presents the Atlas, a battery free RFID weight monitoring tag

The Atlas from Farsens S.L., San Sebastián, Spain, is a battery free RFID sensor tag capable of transmitting a unique identifier and the associated weight measurement data to a commercial EPC C1G2 reader without the need of a battery on the sensor tag. The device features four channels for load cells with measurement ranges from 0kfg to 900kfg per channel.

The tag comes in a variety of antenna designs and sizes to adapt the performance to the required application in the 860-960 MHz band. The reading distance for the battery free magnetometer tag is around 1.5 meters (5 feet) and it can be embedded in a wide variety of materials such as plastics or concrete. Evaluation kits are available.

The Atlas can be used without batteries at all, allowing for a wide range of opportunities monitoring weight in applications where the accessibility is restricted. It is also a perfect match for users that have RFID infrastructure in place and want to monitor weight without adding the cost of wiring or maintenance (battery changes).

Atlas tags are ideal for warehouse inventories, especially for granulates and liquids. Their stock keeping units are generally big (big containers of tons of weight) but the shop floor orders are small. Managers find themselves with a variety of containers with unknown quantities of product – anything between an empty container and a full container. The Atlas helps them quantify their inventories just by reading the tag information in a matter of seconds.

Farsens designs and manufactures full passive RFID sensor solutions. Their proprietary UHF RFID IC allows Farsens to develop long range solutions for asset tracking – via the unique ID – and monitoring – via the attached sensor – without the need of any battery on the tag.
