Landis+Gyr and Powel announce strategic partnership agreement

Landis+Gyr and Powel, Scandinavia’s has announced the start of their strategic partnership. With this development, both companies are looking to combine forces to offer high-quality smart metering solutions in, initially, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

As a part of this collaboration, both parties will contribute to the data collecting process. Specifically, Powel will provide the meter management and meter data management system (Powel ELIN) to read Landis+Gyr’s Smart Meters over the G3 PLC Network and Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream® Head End System (HES). Communication is based on the IPV6 protocol in the entire system.

Gunnar Brennekasa, managing director Landis+Gyr Norway, says: “For Landis+Gyr Norway this agreement is of importance since both Powel and L+G have been in the Norwegian market for many years and are looking forward to further develop the market. It is for both companies’ joint customers also important to see that with this partnership, they are getting the most for their investment”

Through this partnership, Landis+Gyr and Powel can meet the high demands of their joint customers throughout Scandinavia, who are asking for solutions that enable intelligent data reading. Together, the companies are able to offer smart metering solutions at low costs, while technical security, regardless of the size of the roll out, can be guaranteed.

Hans Alesund, country manger Sweden, says: “For Landis+Gyr Sweden this agreement is important as our customers will be able to use their investment in meters on a broader perspective. It also shows Landis+Gyr’s commitment to openness and standardisation.”

Mats Ekelund, managing director of Powel Energy Management AB and responsible for the Smart Metering business within Powel, says: “For Powel in Scandinavia this partnership enables us to give customers advanced functionality and increased reliability using the Powel ELIN solution as a central system for meter data management.

Since 1996, Powel has provided smart metering solutions for over 50 projects throughout Scandinavia, while Landis+Gyr is active in more than thirty countries. For both companies, starting this partnership means finding best end-to-end solutions as well as extending the amount of smart metering and smart grid projects in Northern Europe.
