Shaping and defining the digital future at 5G World Summit

The wheels are fast in motion for 5G, which is set to become the ultimate enabler for the Internet of Things (IoT) in a vastly connected and digital future. 5G is a preparation for the billions of connected “things” in years to come, so the standards behind the new network need to be designed so that they remain fit for purpose for decades beyond the expected commercial roll-out in 2020.

5G World Summit (24-25 June) will bring industry figures together to share ideas about what the standards and legislation for 5G should look like.

Many governments across the world have already recognised the importance of addressing the standardisation process. For example, in the UK, there are plans to establish a public-private sector advisory board to oversee the development of 5G networks and co-ordinate IoT projects across the country. The 5G World Summit will take place in Amsterdam, which has been named a Smart City, and will welcome over 3,500 attendees from across the world, from every sector of the 5G landscape, including operators, vendors, analysts and standards and research organisations.

One of the standards organisations endorsing the Summit, 5G PPP, will be represented by Board Member Mustafa Ergen, who is part of a speaking session titled ‘Evolution of the Mobile Core Network’ on Day One. Speaking ahead of the event, Ergen commented: “Setting a global standard for 5G mobile networks is integral for laying down the successful foundation for the Internet of Things. This year’s 5G World Summit is the prime event for anyone interested in how the mobile world will look in a few years from now, once 5G has been transformed from concept to reality.”

As well as the 5G PPP, the 5G World Summit is also being endorsed by other standards bodies including 3GPP, 5G World Alliance and the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). The conference and exhibition will offer many networking opportunities, including Executive Speed Networking sessions, for delegates to meet with the world’s key forward-thinking players in the 5G ecosystem, providing ample opportunity to share recommendations and ideas in order to create a harmonised set of rules for 5G. The conference is ideal for any attendee looking to future-proof their business, gain some insight into where the industry is heading, and understand both the opportunities and challenges which might arise going forward.

The Summit will be co-located with the LTE World Summit and is the largest event offering a complete platform for defining the future of 5G technology toward 2020 and beyond, while also featuring case studies and keynotes from regional operators.
