AlienVault unveils free threat-scanning service for endpoint devices through Open Threat Exchange

At RSA Conference 2018AlienVault®, the provider of Unified Security Management® (USM) and crowdsourced threat intelligence, announced the launch of its OTX Endpoint Threat Hunter™, a free threat-scanning service in the Open Threat Exchange® (OTX™) available to any registered OTX user.

This first-of-its-kind service natively leverages over 19 million indicators of compromise (IoCs) contributed to OTX on a daily basis by a global community of 80,000 participants. With the ability to run queries against the latest threat intelligence in OTX pulses, OTX Endpoint Threat Hunter makes it simple and fast to get threat visibility of critical endpoints in IT environments. Visit AlienVault in booth #729 to see a demonstration of OTX Endpoint Threat Hunter.

When major, global malware attacks occur, executives want to know immediately if their organization is at risk. Without an advanced security program in place that includes detecting threats against endpoints, it can be difficult to know for certain whether or not any devices have been compromised.

Russ Spitler

“As security threats continue to emerge and evolve rapidly, having on-demand visibility of endpoint devices to quickly gain security insights is critical for determining business risks,” said Russ Spitler, AlienVault’s senior vice president of product strategy. “Leveraging the world’s largest global threat intelligence community, OTX Endpoint Threat Hunter brings OTX users an actionable threat-scanning service without the cost and complexity of a traditional endpoint security solution. No other service delivers as much threat detection power in a free, simple service.”

With its direct OTX integration, OTX Endpoint Threat Hunter enables security practitioners to scan for threats in their environments without using other security products. This means that any OTX user can immediately take advantage of the community-powered threat intelligence of OTX to identify threats on their critical servers and assess their endpoints against emerging attacks.

OTX Endpoint Threat Hunter is powered by the AlienVault Agent, a lightweight and adaptable endpoint agent based on OSQuery that executes pre-defined queries using one or more OTX pulses. The AlienVault Agent is simple and fast to install on Windows, Linux hosts, and any endpoint devices.

With other free, open source approaches to endpoint agents, it can be difficult to deploy, to know what to query, and to correlate this information with the latest threat data. OTX Endpoint Threat Hunter removes the complexity and guesswork while still providing a free security service available to all, enabling security practitioners to quickly identify if any of their critical endpoints have been impacted or compromised with malware or other threats.

AlienVault USM Anywhere™ customers can request early access to the AlienVault Agent for use with USM Anywhere here.
