Major Tier-1 operator selects Iskratel technology for network upgrade

Simon Čimžar of Iskratel

Iskratel, the European provider of communications solutions for the digital transformation, announced its Innbox G108 home gateway is being used in a next-generation PON trial by one of the leading EMEA Tier-1 operators involved in the CORD (Central Office Re-architected as a Datacentre) project.

Several hundred Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) – which were launched at the FTTH Conference in Valencia, Spain, earlier this year – have been deployed to support speeds of up to 10 Gbps upstream and 10 Gbps downstream. The next-generation PON gateways are in line with the latest fibre XGS-PON access technology, supporting delivery of advanced triple-play services, such as Internet data, Voice-over-IP and IP video, including HDTV.

The deployment of Iskratel’s technology is part of a network upgrade to meet consumer demand for gigabit broadband. Following the deployment, the operator aims to increase its service offerings in response to the need for new business models that will instigate new revenue. Iskratel’s G108 home gateway fits perfectly into the operator’s digital transformation strategy, ensuring a secure, controlled, and cost-effective migration path to next-generation gigabit access, with minimal service disruption.

“Our innovative XGS-PON access technology has provided the operator with a cutting-edge solution to meet the demand for high-speed connections its customers require,” said Simon Čimžar, chief solutions architect at Iskratel. “It is a prime example of the success our partner programme can achieve, where our expertise is utilised by local companies looking to become broadband heroes within their communities by improving the communications infrastructure.”

Complying with the latest ITU-T G.9807 GPON standard, the Innbox G108 provides four full-gigabit Ethernet ports, as well as wireless access via concurrent dual-band Wi-Fi technology, that aims to deliver a seamless end-user experience. Embedded NAT, firewall, and IP sharing technology ensure secure broadband access, while a quality-of-experience monitoring client enables online evaluation of users’ data, lowering the operator’s OpEx.

Iskratel will showcase its new Innbox G108 home gateways alongside its comprehensive portfolio of next-generation broadband solutions at FTTH APAC Conference 2018 in Manila, Philippines, from May 8 to 10, ‎and at ANGA COM 2018 in Cologne, Germany, from June 12 to 14.
