One unified event for the power and energy sector

Posted by IoT Now MagazineOctober 15, 2019

“With 2020 just around the corner and decarbonisation targets set through to 2050, with European Utility Week and POWERGEN Europe, the sector now has essentially one unified event for all levels of the energy transition.” (Paddy Young, European Utility Week and POWERGEN Europe director)

European Utility Week and POWERGEN Europe, a three-day event that spotlights every part of the energy ecosystem, is coming to Paris.

From the November 12-14, the influencers, innovators and disruptors in Europe’s transitioning energy sector will meet at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles to highlight the strategies and technologies that will deliver their shared vision of a fully integrated European energy system on a path towards decarbonisation.

An extensive and diverse conference programme will deep dive into the trends and future direction of each aspect of the sector – from generation to grid through to end-users – while a bustling exhibition floor offers visitors the opportunity to see the latest technologies and solutions first hand, exchange ideas and share knowledge.

CUTTING-EDGE CONTENT ON THE EXHIBITION FLOOR

The event will include a free-to-attend Hub Session programme delivered from theatres on the exhibition floor. These sessions which will feature industry experts at the sharp end of the sector, sharing their views on current opportunities in energy storage, renewable integration, digitalisation, the role of hydrogen, grid edge technologies as well as the challenges arising from a changing power generation mix.

POWERGEN EUROPE PROGRAMME

The POWERGEN programme is focussed around two Hub Sessions: Distributed Generation and Lifecycle Management.

Lifecycle Management spotlights the latest developments in both conventional and renewable power generation operation, and places them within the wider context of Europe’s energy transition. It will focus on the latest innovations for re-imagining coal plants, examine the vital part that nuclear will play in any decarbonised future, and also explores the pivotal role of gas-fired generation.

The Hub Session programme will also highlight how digital innovations are bringing transformative efficiencies to all of these sectors.

Meanwhile, the Distributed Generation Hub will cover all aspects of this fast-emerging sector, including:

  • the latest trends and innovations in cogeneration, district heating and cooling
  • renewables integration
  • and the exciting potential uses of hydrogen in the energy value chain.

It will focus on the role of both gas turbine and gas engines in providing flexibility to the smart energy system and take a peek into some of the most promising emerging renewable energy technologies.

EUROPEAN UTILITY WEEK PROGRAMME

Hub Session themes being presented on the European Utility Week exhibition floor fall under the three headings of Energy Revolution, Digitalisation and Energy Markets. These mirror the topics being presented in the Summit Programme at a more strategic planning level.

In Energy Revolution the grid edge topics and distributed energy resources are discussed including electrification of transport, smart and secure grids, energy storage and the use of hydrogen and biomethane. Among the digitalisation topics are the powerful role of the digital twin, smart metering, cybersecurity and customers’ relationships with digital-oriented utilities.

Energy Markets is the Hub for energy traders and market analysts and this will feature sessions on gas market design, power price drivers, innovations in trading and monetarizing flexibility.

NEXT GENERATION TECH

For organisations looking to future-proof themselves, the Initiate! innovation Hub will be diving into the next generation tech and developments in the startup & young talent space with its unique focus on fresh thinking and original out of the box solutions.

BRINGING TOGETHER INVESTORS AND ASSET OWNERS
The Energy Capital Leaders Assembly is the ultimate end-to-end European energy experience for the whole energy supply chain. The Assembly will bring together investors and asset owners from traditional utilities and major energy companies, to support the Energy Transition; not just from a geopolitical standpoint but to enable participants to navigate the finance and investment landscape.

A DEDICATED PROGRAMME FOR LARGE ENERGY USERS
Municipal and commercial & industrial (C&I) energy users are at the sharp end of Europe’s energy transition as they look to implement innovative distributed generation technologies to meet an ever-increasing need to cut emissions and boost energy efficiency. The C&I Approved Programme provides a journey through the 3-day Summit program at EUW & PGE, designed to maximise the C&I energy users’ experience in Paris.

This unified event offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for practitioners to be an influencing voice at the heart of Europe’s energy transition, joining decision-makers and thought-leaders to plan the path to a zero-carbon energy economy.
