New Quectel whitepaper goes inside IoT’s earliest 5G use cases

5G

Quectel Wireless Solutions has published a new whitepaper that sets out how six vertical markets are already demonstrating 5G’s value in IoT. The paper details the deployment status of 5G and its key attributes before detailing six verticals that are already benefiting from either the speed, low latency or high connection density of 5G. Some are benefiting from all three.

5G in IoT has struggled to gain the same attention as 5G in the consumer world but Quectel, which was the first company to bring 5G IoT modules to market, has drawn on its leadership in the M2M cellular modules to enable many of the 5G use cases detailed in the paper. ABI Research has recently released its “M2M Cellular Module Vendor Market Share-2019” report, which ranked Quectel as the number one cellular module vendor globally by shipment as well as by revenue.

The new whitepaper details why organizations should select 5G for IoT, while acknowledging that it is not the best solution for all use cases. The paper also uncovers that, as 2G networks are being retired and substituted with narrowband-IoT (NB-IoT) connectivity, the opportunities for 5G are becoming clearer. Key verticals where 5G has most value to add include: automotive, health, manufacturing, farming, media and smart cities and the paper details use cases in each.

These either uncover deployments that have resulted in greater productivity, increased convenience or enhanced revenue generation and all demonstrate that the 5G future is bright in IoT.

“We’re proud to present our six leading 5G in IoT verticals and the use cases associated with each that demonstrate the value 5G can add,” said Patrick Qian, CEO, Quectel Wireless Solutions. “As the first company to develop a 5G module, Quectel has been at the forefront of the 5G market and we now have more than 1,000 design-in customers for our 5G modules. Our head start in 5G means our modules contain the most advanced features and capabilities and features on the market from powerful algorithms for edge computing and storage to utilizing Cortex-A7 up to 1.5GHz as the primary boot processor.”

Quectel offers a portfolio of 5G module families. In the Sub-6 GHZ category, it offers the RG500Q and RM500Q family. While, in the mmWave plus Sub-6GHz category, it offers the RG510Q and RM510Q module family.
