FAW Group’s Hongqi goes global with HERE

HERE Technologies, the location data and technology platform, announced that Chinese automaker China FAW Group Co.,Ltd. (FAW) is tapping HERE Location Services and Content to expand its premium car brand Hongqi into Europe and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

Drivers of Hongqi in Europe and GCC will soon enjoy safer and better driving experiences thanks to HERE-enabled maps and services available via their connected in-vehicle navigation systems. These features comprise of accurate mapping, speed limits and traffic information, route planning and guidance information such as locations of electric vehicles charging points, and even local weather updates.

By providing Hongqi with global and country-specific coverage maps, HERE equips the Chinese automaker with local data and information to navigate foreign markets, enabling Hongqi to expand internationally at scale.

Director of Hongqi overseas marketing department, Wang Lingyu says, “As one of China’s most historical and automotive manufacturers, we’re constantly improving and innovating to build the most desirable vehicles for our customers. We believe we could become a world-class mobility service provider with excellent suppliers like HERE Technologies.”

Hongqi has been making headway with its expansion beyond China, evident by its strong sales figures in 2021. In February this year, Hongqi delivered the batch of its E-HS9, a full-sized all-electric smart SUV to customers in Norway, and also launched the same model along with the Hongqi H9 in Vietnam.

Sammie Xi, director and head of business for Greater China at HERE Technologies says, “FAW’s Hongqi is regarded as the pride of China, and their vehicles have been gaining growth and traction locally. We’re very proud to enable the next phase of innovative growth for this home-grown company and to provide the foundational data and services for Hongqi to reach more customers overseas.”
