Advantech supports Tsai Ying clean energy to develop Taiwan’s FCEB management system

Taipei, 05 May, 2022 – In response to the goal of bringing global carbon dioxide emissions to net zero by 2050, Advantech, a global specialist in Industrial IoT, signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Tsai Ying Clean Energy Co., Ltd. (TYCE) for cooperation in developing the “Made-in-Taiwan” hydrogen fuel cell electric bus (FCEB) management system, as well as jointly exploring domestic and international markets for it.

Due to the increasing threat of climate change, the global net-zero trend, and the carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), Europe and the United States have reached an international consensus on tackling these issues head on. In line with this, the Taiwan government has announced its net-zero road map recently, focusing on policy guidelines such as energy efficiency, green energy, and maximising carbon emissions reduction.

MC Chiang, vice president of Advantech’s Service IoT Group, pointed out that, “Based on our corporate vision for Enabling an Intelligent Planet, Advantech is dedicated to becoming an active supporter of a sustainable planet through our sustainable acts and policies. In addition to actively setting goals for green operations, environmental management, and greenhouse gas emissions in recent years, we strive to provide solutions in line with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals are also in tune with the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ proposal for investing in research and development of key technologies within ten years to achieve net-zero carbon emission goals such as deploying electric transportation by 2030.”

Van Lin, senior director of Advantech’s Service IoT Group, emphasized that, “Advantech has been cultivating fleet management and smart bus applications for more than ten years, with successful cases all over the world. We have been vigorously cooperating with global partners in the electric bus industry to realise the vision of low-carbon green energy transportation. In this cooperation, Advantech will provide software and hardware integrated solutions on TYCE’s hydrogen FCEBs, such as the intelligent eBus management cloud platform, TREK in-vehicle computing box, AI-based fleet safety, vehicle diagnosis, and on-board passenger multimedia infotainment services. These solutions will improve the safety and efficiency of hydrogen FCEBs and offer more comfortable journeys to travelers.”

Eagle Cheng, chairman of Tsai Ying Clean Energy, says that, “Due to the fact that countries around the world are committed to carbon neutrality, the team has concluded that hydrogen FCEBs are the ultimate products for large public bus product lines. This cooperation with Advantech is not only for jointly developing the hydrogen FCEB management system suitable for operation in Taiwan by leveraging Advantech’s collective experience in the smart eBus field, but also hopes to mobilise Advantech’s global network for the promotion of hydrogen FCEBs. Moreover, this cooperation will raise the self-sufficiency rate of hydrogen FCEBs in Taiwan and improve both companies’ international competitiveness.”

Advantech and Tsai Ying Clean Energy Co., Ltd. are expected to complete Taiwan’s hydrogen FCEB management system by the end of 2022 and will promote it together globally in the future.
