Novalink, Abeeway join forces to provide IoT alert systems for patients in healthcare

Novalink, a Swiss specialist in the field of alarm solutions since 1996, has become an Abeeway and Actility Solution Partner, in order to enable new tracking solutions in the healthcare sector.

Novalink boasts more than 7,000 systems successfully implemented worldwide. Their product called novaalert alarm software is the ideal alerting evacuation notification solution in professional environments. It includes the fields of industry and production, clinics and hospitals, and local authorities.

In this context, the novaalert alarm software offers three decisive advantages:

  • “Manufacturer freedom” thanks to certification covering all renowned telephony/infrastructure systems
  • “Technology freedom” thanks to the integration of both traditional and state-of-the-art interfaces/IT systems
  • “Project freedom” thanks to its suitability for both large-scale and cost-effective small-scale projects

Integrating low-power IoT tracking in the alert system for people needing assistance

Novalink found an ideal partner in Abeeway, so that novaalert could enable a variety of solutions in the healthcare sector, more specifically for psychiatric hospitals, retirement homes and nursing homes for dementia patients.

People suffering from dementia have a reduced ability to remember, think or make decisions that interferes with the performance of daily activities, that’s why, thanks to the combination between novaalert mobileAPP and Abeeway Micro Trackers missing people, affected by the mentioned disease, can be found easily and quickly.

The Abeeway Micro Tracker is a multi-mode tracker with embedded sensors for accurate outdoor and indoor geolocation. With its small size and long battery life up to a year on a single charge, the Abeeway Micro Tracker enables people to be located indoors via Bluetooth Beacons and outdoors via GPS, and it uses LoRaWAN connectivity. This widely used wireless protocol allows battery-powered sensors to communicate with IoT applications via a long-range, ultra-low data rate connection, resulting in longer battery life.

Another important functionality is the versatility of the research of the missing person that can be automatic or manual. Automated detection is possible via a combination of GPS Geofence and iBeacon technology, instead, manual searches can also be triggered directly in the novaalert mobileAPP.

Using the Micro Tracker button, a person seeking assistance can trigger an alarm independently thanks to novaalert mobileAPP, the nursing staff receives the alarm message including the tracker’s exact location (indoors and outdoors) and can quickly come to the aid of the person in distress.

This is the reason why novalink chose Abeeway and LoRaWAN as the necessary technologies for this solution. The safety of people must be considered to ensure the correct performance of the system. Abeeway is a market specialist in providing only certified products and providing support when needed, ensuring reliability. LoRaWAN, on the other hand, allows to locate people and devices both indoors and outdoors and is cheap and reliable.
