Technology

Supported by Litum software and mobile application, BLE beacons in the form of employee ID badges that can be detected and counted without need for power or infrastructure, fast and simple.

Integration

Integrated with company time and attendance software for headcount accuracy.

How to account for everyone following and emergency evacuation with no power and infrastructure?

The business problem

Accounting for more than 1200 personnel, as well as visitors, at any given time is an arduous task, and even harder in the chaotic environment of an emergency. Ferrero needed a way to confirm that everyone on site could be safely accounted for when an emergency evacuation was underway.

The solutions

Employees and visitors are assigned a sleek and lightweight, battery powered badge that replaces traditional ID badges for easy initial user conversion.

As people report on site, and as they leave, the employee and visitor rosters are updated for accurate headcount on site. Missing employees are instantly identified & reported to minimize the risk of injury.

The badges do not require infrastructure or external power to be scanned during roll-call, making them flexible, versatile and affordable. Easily scalable, standalone system can be adapted to unlimited number of users.

As people report to mustering stations, a safety officer at that site uses a cell phone or tablet to quickly capture the BLE signals being transmitted by each badge up to 50 meters.

Elimination of manual procedures results in improved regulatory compliance and safety for Ferrero.

The Results
70% faster system
Ferrero currently utilizes a system that is 70% faster than the previously used manual procedures and the system automatically compares the BLE data captured at the mustering area against the latest employee and visitor rosters, immediately reporting any missing individuals. Officers can then seek out missing individuals to ensure their safe evacuation. The system also tracks the number of practice exercises conducted and the total time of the exercise as well as the results making it easy for Ferrero to retain for their safety records.

Challenges

For Ferrero, like any other safety conscious company in case of an emergency, safety actions become extremely time sensitive.

Outdated manual counting is time consuming and has high potential for errors.

Daily changes in personnel attendance and visitor circulation creates difficulties for accurate headcount at the dedicated mustering points.

It is difficult to fulfill internal audit requirements that puts emphasis on speed during an emergency as human lives may be at stake.
