IAR has announced the collaboration with NexCOBOT. IAR will be the Functional Safety solutions development partner of NexCOBOT to support its robot’s development by using the certified IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm to advance the future of smart manufacturing with collaborative robots.NexCOBOT is a robot controller solution provider and operates as a subsidiary of the industrial computer manufacturer NEXCOM. They are dedicated to constructing open and modular robot control and motion control solutions, ranging from robot motion control systems, robot functional safety control boards, robot motion joint controllers, peripheral IO interfaces and robot safety certifications to robot design consulting services. The company offers functional safety solutions on Renesas Electronics’ RZ/T2M MPU series facilitating the development of embedded robots and automation controllers with functional safety capabilities.

In 2023, NexCOBOT integrated the German smart robot technology with the globally exclusive PC-based SIL2/3 robot functional safety control platform, introducing a robot control solution that complies with the IEC 61508 standard.

In the expanding robotics sector, NexCOBOT is at the forefront, providing innovative robot safety function kits that integrate with existing robotic equipment. This offering is a game-changer for businesses, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming redesigns and accelerating development timelines. The timing is particularly pertinent as a revised and more rigorous edition of the ISO 10218-1 safety standard for industrial robots is introduced in the first quarter of 2024. This presents a significant challenge for businesses aiming to independently achieve safety certification, given the considerable resources and time involved.

“NexCOBOT is among the few companies in Asia that offer customised EtherCAT functional safety software services,” said Weihan Wang, a product director at NexCOBOT,” IAR’s broadly global industrial OEM customer base is not only the best partner for NexCOBOT to expand overseas business but also enable seamless integration on software development through its cooperation with leading MCU manufacturers.”

“IAR is delighted to contribute to more reliable industrial technology through its best-in-class functional safety solutions,” said Kiyo Uemura, an area vice president, APAC of IAR. “Human-robot collaboration is a future trend in smart manufacturing. The robot control system developed by NexCOBOT offers the most suitable solution, in response to the increasing demand for safety, flexibility and customised robotic solutions. IAR will continue collaborating with professional industry partners like NexCOBOT to create customised functional safety solutions for industrial automation. By developing innovative robot control solutions, we aspire to create safer and smarter production environments for humanity.”

By using NexCOBOT’s modular robot functional safety kits in conjunction with IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm, Functional Safety edition, businesses stand to gain a significant advantage. This strategic collaboration not only streamlines the path to compliance with the impending ISO standards but also offers a cost-effective solution to the traditionally high expenses associated with obtaining safety certifications.

As the manufacturing landscape continues to evolve with robotics, the demand for interoperability, connectivity and security is more pressing than ever. IAR’s commitment to code quality, productivity and secure automation processes, backed by TÜV SÜD certification, ensures that businesses are well-equipped to navigate the challenges and opportunities of this dynamic industry.
