Bosch Bytes Athens 2025 sets the tone for future Bosch SDS events in Europe

Bosch Bytes took place in Athens on 20 March 2025, bringing together professionals and thought leaders from various industries for an exclusive event. After the event, Jim Morrish caught up with Andreas Wolter, Regional Head Europe at Bosch Software and Digital Solutions (SDS) to find out more about the event and its key messages and takeaways.

JM: Andreas, can you tell me a little more about Bosch Bytes Athens 2025?

AW: Of course! Bosch Bytes is an exclusive event series designed for forward-thinkers, industry experts, and decision-makers shaping the future of technology and business. Hosted by Bosch Software and Digital Solutions, the latest edition took place in Athens on 20 March 2025, bringing together thought leaders from across Europe to explore how digital solutions are transforming economies and societies. This was actually our second edition – the first was also held in Athens in May 2024 and we are very happy to see the series kicking off this year.

The event was structured around four major themes: Cybersecurity, AI, Sustainability, and #SmarterDigital. Each topic featured concise, high-impact keynote presentations followed by dynamic panel discussions. A major focus was on how European companies can leverage emerging regulations around sustainability, cybersecurity, and AI to drive innovation rather than seeing them as obstacles.

We had an incredible turnout, with around 150 attendees on-site and a strong lineup of 17 speakers. The audience was diverse – 36% came from the Technology and IT sector, which wasn’t surprising given the themes, but we also saw 13% from media and communication, 7% from universities and research, 5% from energy and infrastructure, and 4% from pharma, with the rest spanning various other industries. This industry diversity really enriched the discussions.

Our speaker lineup was equally impressive, featuring industry leaders such as Amazon Web Services and Hewlett Packard Enterprises, key regulatory bodies like the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity, and innovative players like Dryad Networks and Libelium. We also had strong representation from the Greek tech ecosystem. The combination of global corporations, startups, and policymakers made for truly engaging and insightful discussions—and that’s exactly what Bosch Bytes is about.

JM: Why did you host the event, and why Athens?

AW: While Bosch is widely recognised for home appliances, we also offer leading enterprise software solutions. Bosch SDS is a global group of technology pioneers helping our clients along their continuous digitalisation journeys, ensuring that these are continuous, sustainable, relentless and connected. We can help clients to adopt X-as-a-service business models, extend Product Lifecycle Management with digital twins and digital threads to enhance customer experiences, and help to drive sustainability-by-design for the circular economy.

Bosch Bytes was created as a unique platform for exchanging ideas, discovering digital innovations, and tackling the key challenges of digital transformation across Europe. We wanted this event to set the agenda – fostering knowledge-sharing, learning, and meaningful discussions.

For example, our speakers debated emerging AI regulations, with some endorsing the current approach while others suggested alternative models. This is exactly what we aimed for – open, thought-provoking discussions that challenge existing narratives.

Another highlight was giving a platform to Dryad Networks, a company developing technology to detect and prevent wildfires. Why? Because it’s a great example of tech making the world a better place.

Our focus has been on creating an environment that fosters open, expert-led conversations about real industry challenges.

And as for Athens, well – it’s fast becoming a significant technology hub, particularly in AI. The quality of education is high, language capabilities are strong, and the tech scene is growing rapidly. Plus, we saw strong industry representation here, making it an ideal location And of course, the weather isn’t bad either.

JM: From your perspective, how did the event go?

AW: I’d say it exceeded expectations. The energy in the room was fantastic, and the level of engagement – from both speakers and attendees – really stood out. We kept the pace fast, which helped maintain a high level of interaction and sparked insightful discussions.

We also received positive feedback, from both speakers and attendees. People appreciated the discussions and the balance we struck between keynote sessions, panels, and networking opportunities.

And of course, the venue also contributed to the experience. Hosting it at the Lighthouse of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center added something special. On one side, you had views of the Aegean Sea and the islands, and on the other, the Athens skyline and the Parthenon—an inspiring setting for conversations about the future.

Credit to the organising team as well – the event logistics and planning received great feedback, which is always crucial to a smooth experience.

JM: What’s next for Bosch Bytes?

AW: Right now, we’re already planning our next Bosch Bytes events! Denmark is up next on May 27, 2025, followed by the United Kingdom in October.

While sustainability will remain a key theme across all locations, each event will have a tailored focus specific to the location, their industries and the demand we are seeing there. In Denmark, we’ll highlight cybersecurity, quantum technology, and operational service models. The UK event—though still a bit further out—will focus on sustainability and cybersecurity, with a strong emphasis on AI and Operational Technology.

Beyond that, we’ll be announcing more locations soon, but our focus will remain on Europe, with content adapted to each market. The goal is to keep Bosch Bytes evolving while staying true to its purpose: fostering meaningful discussions that shape the future of digital transformation.
