PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) officially launched the Telkom Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence (CoE) supported by Telkom Solution at the Bali International Convention Centre (BICC) in Nusa Dua, Bali. Inaugurated directly by Telkom’s Director of IT digital, Faizal R. Djoemadi, and the director of enterprise and business service, Veranita Yosephine, the AI CoE is Telkom’s initiative in the field of AI to digitise the nation which has a positive impact on people’s welfare.
The launch of the AI Centre of Excellence aligns with the government’s ambitious digital reform agenda, as directed by the president, which emphasises the use of artificial intelligence-based technology to improve national efficiency and competitiveness. As part of the TelkomGroup, the Telkom AI Centre of Excellence is committed to delivering real solutions that support this transformation through cross-sector synergy and collaboration with stakeholders.
Furthermore, AI boosts national competitiveness and will contribute to the global economy. PWC projects AI’s contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to reach up to USD 15.7 trillion by 2030.
AI will also be a key factor in increasing competitiveness and accelerating digital transformation, which will ultimately lead to increased productivity. A Goldman Sachs report estimates that AI adoption could increase labour productivity by around 15%. This demonstrates that AI will revolutionise everything, including how industries operate and change the future workforce landscape.
The Telkom AI Centre of Excellence is a holistic initiative designed by Telkom, enabling the National AI ecosystem, demonstrating Telkom’s commitment to supporting government digitalisation, strengthening industry competitiveness, and empowering local talent. The AI Centre of Excellence has four program pillars. AI Campus is a collaborative platform with universities, AI Playground provides a practical exploration and research space, AI Connect harmonises practitioners, startups and business players, and AI Hub creates real-world solutions for various industries.
“We are confident that the Telkom Indonesia AI Centre of Excellence will serve as a hub for the development, collaboration and implementation of artificial intelligence, driving digitalisation in government and industrial transformation in Indonesia, thereby positively benefiting society and the nation’s economy,” Faizal said.
The success of the Telkom AI Centre of Excellence is evident in the presence of AI BigBox, Telkom’s flagship AI platform, which has helped various institutions, companies and MSMEs improve. With capabilities such as Analytics, Machine Learning, Large Language Models (LLM) and Natural Language Processing (NLP), AI BigBox has helped them optimise daily operations and increase productivity.
One such use is a virtual assistant in the form of a chatbot, which can be used to optimise operations or improve customer interactions. BigBox AI’s chatbot can process over 300,000 conversations per hour quickly and accurately.
BigBox AI can also be used for e-KYC, allowing for more efficient identity verification of customers and partners. It can also be used to monitor potential cyberattacks, with BigBox AI currently identifying over 130,000 cyberattacks each month.
With these capabilities, combined with collaboration with strategic partners and the full support of stakeholders, Telkom is confident that the AI Centre of Excellence will be a key accelerator driving the success of Indonesia’s transformation and digitalisation.
Faizal also stated that with the AI Centre of Excellence, Telkom is committed to strengthening its digital capabilities, AI infrastructure, and technology platforms to create a solid foundation for supporting sustainable innovation. Through the Telkom AI Centre of Excellence, Telkom aims to make Indonesia smarter, more innovative and more competitive in the digital era.
