Information and communication technology (ICT) deployments in manufacturing industries are currently limited to the sporadic use of machine to machine (M2M) communications and cloud solutions.

The GSMA has announced that it has established the ‘Mobile IoT Initiative’, a new project backed by 26 of the world’s leading mobile operators, OEMs, chipset, module and infrastructure companies, designed to address the use of Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) solutions in licensed spectrum.
