As they become more ubiquitous in homes and in various consumer electronics products, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital assistants are likely to be two of the major overarching themes at this week’s 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

One of the most daunting tasks for any platform or device vendor in the smart home market is identifying which type of company offers the best opportunity for long-term success – security providers, multiple service operators (MSOs), smart home specialists, do-it-yourself (DIY) smart-home systems or utilities.

For the smart home market, 2015 will be viewed as a launch-pad year for many suppliers. Although most of the top security device vendors have had smart devices in their portfolios from previous years, it was only last year that device suppliers moved to retake the ecosystem. So says Blake Kozak of IHS in a
