SORACOM, Inc., provider of the cloud-native platform for the Internet of Things (IoT), announced availability of pay-as-you-go, pay-as-you-grow service for the Sigfox global Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN). The Sigfox network, available in over 45 countries and territories, is used to connect millions of objects collecting and transmitting IoT data.
Many enterprises have IoT devices scattered across dozens, hundreds and thousands of sites—everything from stores to branch offices to remote oil wellheads. The more sites there are, the less likely it is that a single network technology or service provider can connect them all.
Vodafone and Huawei have completed a trial on a full end-to-end (E2E) network of a technique to improve the range of high frequency spectrum that can in future be used to deliver 5G to its customers. Italy’s Ministry for Economic Development has made frequencies available to Vodafone so that it can trial pre-standard 5G in Milan. An E2E test network has been built for that purpose.
It’s official: the potential of the IoT can no longer be ignored. There are 520 million global cellular IoT connections today, and this number is predicted to grow to 2.4 billion by 2025, according to Strategy Analytics.
