ETSI’s 5th Generation Fixed Network group (F5G ISG) has just released its specification, ETSI GS F5G 003, entitled F5G Technology Landscape. In this specification, the ISG studies the technical requirements, existing standards and gaps for 10 different new use cases, for home, enterprises or industrial needs.

For operators to maximise the full potential of 5G and capitalise on their network infrastructure, fibre should be at the heart of every Fibre-To-The-x (FTTx) and mobile network. So says Paul McCue, Emtelle’s market specialist, 5G, IoT and Smart City today.

Emtelle, a provider of blown fibre and ducted network solutions for the telecoms industry, announced a new addition to its PowerProtect+ range, completing its data centre portfolio and further reducing the risk of costly damage to areas where cables transition from an external to internal network.

The deployment of smart grids based on PON fiber communications will provide a US$1.5–$2bn opportunity to FTTx PON component and equipment vendors, according to global analyst firm Ovum
