By augmenting fifth generation (5G) mobile networks with next-generation satellite capabilities, satellite operators have an opportunity to become a major player in the emerging 5G ecosystem, says leading data and analytics company GlobalData.

The number of active fleet management systems deployed in commercial vehicle fleets in Europe was 6.6 million in Q4-2016, according to a new research report from the M2M/IoT analyst firm Berg Insight. Growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.4%, this number is expected to reach 14.1 million by 2021.

The SIMalliance membership, which represents approximately 90% of the global SIM market, has reported a 5% year-on-year growth in its 2016 shipment volumes. A total 4.9 billion units were shipped during that period.

Data is big business. As the saying goes, information is power, and this has never been truer than with traditionally hardware-focused companies shifting towards a software-based model.
