Skype has been integrated into Nextraq’s Fleet Dispatch integrated GPS dispatching product, combining with SMS and Garmin dispatching software.
The GPS vehicle tracking and fleet management company said this would further improve communications between dispatchers and the field.
“We’ve put a great deal of resources into our research and development division to ensure we offer not only the most reliable solutions in the market, but also the most innovative,” said Mike Scarbrough, CEO of Nextraq. “On the heels of announcing the 8.8.2 release of our Nextraq platform, we believe our first to market Skype integration to Fleet Dispatch further differentiates us within the telematics industry.”
To mark the Skype integration, the company is offering free Polycom Communicator C100S devices to the first 25 people to submit a registration form via its web site. The C100S is Skype-certified and can be used with Fleet Dispatch.
Based on the same technology used in Polycom’s line of triangular Soundstation conference phones, the device offers the freedom of not wearing a headset for hands-free Skype calls. This technology provides dispatchers more options to reach drivers and field workers, easing communications and making fleet operations more efficient.
“Whether dispatchers are trying to track and trace a driver, assign jobs or send mobile messages regarding issues as they happen, they now have the option and convenience to do so hands-free via Skype,” said Scarbrough.
