M2M connected devices predicted to hit 82.5 million by 2016

The number of connected devices in the M2M market will grow to 82.5 million by 2016, according to a report from Atlantic-ACM.

The market research company said that in the first quarter of this year there were 23.9 million connected devices in the M2M market.

The figures appeared in US Telecom Wired & Wireless Sizing & Share 2011-2016, the 18th edition of the telecoms industry’s market sizing study.

“While blockbuster M2M deals – like those with AT&T for Amazon’s Kindle or Verizon’s contract with General Motors’ Onstar – dominate headlines, there are thousands of opportunities for greenfield projects connecting a nearly limitless array of devices to networks,” said Atlantic-ACM analyst Douglas Barnett.

“This broad range of opportunities will connect 82.5 million devices by 2016, generating US$1.6 billion in revenues to wireless providers.”

The quantitative, 300 plus page research document provides detailed, apples-to-apples forecasts by product and company delivering a comprehensive view of the industry.

The research is available in several forms, including individual-use hardcopy, corporate site licence, an interactive forecaster for custom market and data dissection, and Atlantic-ACM’s Wireline & Wireless Market Master subscription, which provides all of these pieces, plus extended research analyst time.
