Amsterdam, Netherlands. December 20, 2011 – The digital security specialist, Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 – GTO), has today announced that it has acquired SensorLogic. This confirms the report and exclusive insider comment revealed on this site on 10 December. The terms of the transaction, which was structured as an asset deal, have not been disclosed.
Founded in 2002, with its main location in Plano, Texas, SensorLogic has developed a cloud-based, machine-to-machine (M2M) service delivery platform (SDP) which allows customers to build, deploy and manage M2M solutions in a broad range of applications such as asset tracking, telematics and equipment monitoring and servicing. The SensorLogic ‘platform as a service’ (PaaS) approach allows enterprises, mobile network operators, system integrators and service providers to bring services to market at a fraction of the cost of a traditional in-house development.
With Gemalto adding this widely recognised application development platform to the Cinterion range of M2M modules (acquired by Gemalto in June 2010), MIM cards and MIM management capabilities, and Over-The-Air (OTA) device management and security solutions, the security systems firm is confident it has created a distinct offering for M2M.
Commenting on the transaction, Oliver Piou (pictured), Gemalto Chief Executive Officer noted: “With M2M, we continue to replicate our successful business model. Starting from advanced software embedded in a device, we add remote management and then application support to provide superior performance and differentiation to our customers.” Norbert Muhrer, Cinterion’s CEO, added “SensorLogic is a perfect fit for our M2M business. With SensorLogic, we are taking complexity out of M2M deployments thus clearly adding value to our clients”.
As first reported by M2M Now on December 10, sources within SensorLogic had confirmed to this site that investors in the Boston-based company declined to extend additional funding to the company. Staff were laid off and its operations closed down. SensorLogic then received a bid from Gemalto for its service delivery platform and Intellectual Property. Michael Campbell, CEO of SensorLogic, confirmed “I believe that the combination of Gemalto, Cinterion, and SensorLogic has no match in the market today. Serving both the mobile network operators and enterprise worlds, Gemalto through Cinterion will clearly take our platform to new levels.”
