Iskraemeco and EnVerv announce partnership for next generation multi-standard smart meters

Kranj, Slovenia and San Jose, California, USA (Business Wire) June 17, 2014 – Iskraemeco and EnVerv have announced their partnership for the development of next generation multi-standard residential, commercial and industrial smart meters where EnVerv’s EV8000 Power-Line Communications (PLC) modem System-on-Chip (SoC) serves as the multi-protocol, multi-band communications engine supporting legacy G1 S-FSK and the new OFDM-based G3-PLC standards.

“We have chosen EnVerv as our G3-PLC technology partner due to their superior performance over alternative solutions and the flexibility of their multi-protocol, multi-band SoC modem,” said Markus Guebeli, Chief Technology Officer at Iskraemeco. “EnVerv’s ability to service multiple protocols in their modem enables us to offer our existing G1 customers with AMI meters that can be installed in G1 configuration and in future remotely reconfigured to the latest version of the G3-PLC standard, thus future-proofing meter installations and eliminating the need for future truck rolls and consumer disruptions which significantly reduce our customers’ capital and operational expenses.”

The EV8000 is a fully integrated single-chip PLC SoC that includes comprehensive modem functionality from the power line to the network layer and has programmable frequency bands, covering CENELEC-A, FCC and ARIB bands without the need for chip or module hardware changes.

EnVerv is a fabless semiconductor company which offers SoC solutions enabling robust and high-speed communications over low-voltage (LV) and medium-voltage (MV) power lines applicable to various grid connectivity markets such as AMI, solar micro-inverters, transformer monitoring, substation communications and lighting networks.

Iskraemeco’s products are present in more than 100 countries worldwide. Founded in 1945, the company has, to date, supplied customers with more than 40 million devices, almost two million of which are electronic.
