Geo, the Cambridge based developer of smarter home energy products has celebrated the formal presentation of the 2017 Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation. The award was presented by the Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Mrs Julie Spence, OBE QPM, at geo’s headquarters in Hardwick, and was in recognition of the technical and business achievements of the company.

Geo has made significant progress in introducing ground-breaking solutions to help consumers control their home energy usage since it was founded in 2006. The Award merited the first of these solutions, the Solo in-home energy monitor. The Queen’s Award was presented to Patrick Caiger-Smith, CEO at Geo, who received it on behalf of the entire Geo team.

“The formal presentation of the Queen’s Award was particularly special to us because it was in Cambridge, where we have invested so much of our development, and it allowed the entire company to be present and take part,” said Patrick Caiger-Smith.

“It is through the talents of our team that we have been able to develop an outstanding range of products that every day are lowering costs and reducing energy usage in countless homes. Years of hard work and dedication have been rewarded and we are very proud.”

Geo was selected for the Queen’s Award because it was able to demonstrate that the innovation behind the Solo product had been instrumental in its own business development and in the design of other new products.

It also provides a well-engineered solution at an acceptable price for Geo’s energy retail customers and consumers, and it has played a role in encouraging the Department of Energy and Climate Change to support in-home displays in the smart metering programme.

The Geo team believes that the technology solutions it designs and develops are a means to a very important end – engaging consumers so that they can bring about a real, tangible change in energy usage that has a positive, long-term impact on climate change.
