Due to legislation regarding the hours that a driver may work it is vital that this telematics company is able to track the hours and schedules of drivers. They must ensure that their drivers do not work more than the regulated amount of hours without a minimum rest time.

To manage the schedules of multiple drivers working across several countries is complicated. By using the tracking data from their IoT devices in combination with Device Pilot’s platform they are able to track how long each driver has been working, when they need to take a break, and whether there is another driver in the area who can take over if it is necessary to complete the delivery quickly. Pod Group’s reliable connectivity works across borders and in areas of poor signal, ensuring that data from their IoT devices is always captured.

The temperature sensors in their IoT devices allow them to ensure that the perishable goods they transport are maintained within the correct temperature ranges. By recording this in Device Pilot’s platform it enables them to show the evidence to health inspectors if required.

The Application

The combination of Pod Group’s connectivity and Device Pilot’s platform allows the customers to ensure that SIMs are online at all times and that geolocation is working. The telematics customer uses the data visualization tools provided by Device Pilot to streamline processes and increase efficiencies.

They track where their devices have been, how long delivery took to various locations, whether their drivers are meeting targets, and the distance traveled by each truck

With this information, they are able to plan maintenance schedules and ensure that their trucks are maintained in good working order and serviced when needed. They can monitor driver efficiency and locate any pain points which may be preventing routes from being completed in good time

They can track drivers’ hours worked, allowing them to ensure that drivers get sufficient rest and making payroll tasks simpler and quicker each month. By tracking their hours worked it allows them to easily comply with local legislation regarding working hours.

As well as geolocation they also use temperature sensors in their refrigerated vehicles. This allows them to ensure and prove that they are operating under local health and safety laws and that foodstuffs have been kept at the correct temperature

The biggest saving is in time. With Device Pilot the customer can look at one screen and see all the information they need easily. The customizable dashboards make it even quicker to zero in on the relevant information. All the data is available in easy to use formats. They can create visual representations of data and share it with anyone from health inspectors or the CEO to the drivers themselves in order to help them easily understand certain events.

Due to the fault finding and billing management aspects of the integration, customers can monitor the telemetry from the devices as well as the SIM level data. This means they know which device is costing more as well as whether that device is valuable. They can use this data to investigate why a device may be performing poorly (without this data it would have only been possible to guess that there are connectivity issues, with this integration customers can find out for sure).

With drivers’ times accurately monitored, any disputes between drivers and managers can be reconciled promptly. This will increase productivity and reduce the risk of any fines.

From the data gathered over time on perishable goods, statistics on product quality can be fed back to the food product suppliers in relation to just-in-time logistics guidelines. For example, perishable goods A has a tolerance of X temperature, during Y transit time.

This information can be used to ensure that saleable products are delivered every time. There will be less wastage, increased efficiencies, and satisfied customers.
