After three days of discussion, debate and networking, the Global System for Mobile Association (GSMA) concluded Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2023, with nearly 37,000 mobile ecosystem policy makers and business leaders, travelling in from 115 countries around the world.
Mobile World Congress in Shanghai hosted representatives from over 8000 companies, which included 30% of attendees from adjacent industries and a huge 1.85m people logged in to watch the keynote sessions, across the event’s media partner platforms.
Central to the event was tackling the industry’s actual ability to integrate technology and transform management for the future success of 5G.
Keynote speakers drove hard at the pain-point of realistically achieving greater synergy across cloud, networks, edge, and devices, whilst simultaneously optimising software, hardware, chips, and algorithms for joint deployment across vastly different industrial scenarios. No small ask, in fact, perhaps we are witnessing one of the most challenging times in mobile technology history but also, one of the most rapidly evolutionary.
„This is just the beginning,” said Mats Granryd, Director General of the GSMA, „with operators already launching early adopter programmes, we will see more APIs in the coming year, creating new global markets, offering new services and new functionality. This will help unlock further value from 5G connectivity which will flow into the global economy and strengthen future investments, bringing transformational benefits of connectivity to all.”
During the anniversary event, the Asian Mobile Awards (AMOs) were also held, with the following winners announced:
- The Disruptive Device Innovation Award:
- MediaTek MT6825
- The Best Smartphone in Asia Award
- OPPO Find N2 (Winner)
- HONOR Magic 5 Pro (Highly Commended)
- The 5G Industry Challenge Award, jointly won by:
- China Unicom and Guangdong Education and Research Network (GDERNET) for its 5G education private network
- Tang West Market Group for its cultural & artworks metaverse
