8th Future of Wireless International Conference focuses on boardroom impact of connected world

Raj Gawera, CW chairman, VP and
managing director, Samsung Cambridge

Now in its 8th year, the 2016 Future of Wireless International Conference will turn its attention to the boardroom and explore how industry leaders are planning to transform and build new business models to harness a world with ubiquitous wireless.

With headline speakers from the likes of Deutsche Telekom, McLaren and Magna International, the conference will focus on how wireless technology is pushing the boundaries across a number of industry segments.

Running alongside London’s showcase Tech Week event on 21 and 22 June, the conference focusing on ‘The Future Connected World’, will bring together more than 400 entrepreneurs and engineers from around the world, together with C-suite level decision makers to share their visions and enabling technologies for new markets, industries and business models. The event is organised by Cambridge Wireless (CW) – the international community for companies involved in the research, development and application of wireless and mobile technologies.

“More than ever before, Technology now has the ability to disrupt many traditional industries and business models. All across the country, every corporate board needs to discuss the threats and opportunities that new technology brings – especially the potent mix of ubiquitous wireless and web connected platforms,” said Raj Gawera, CW chairman, VP and managing director of Samsung Cambridge. “The question is, how fast can technology transformation occur and will incumbents be able to embrace and deploy new technology fast enough to avoid disruption?”

As well as keynote sessions, the conference will include vertical industry streams covering automotive, retail, industrial IoT, utilities, fintech, entertainment and healthcare. Other activities will include the Innovation Test Labs, live Smart Building sensor and data simulations, the entrepreneur and young leaders showcase, as well as international business matchmaking. The conference includes ‘The Cambridge Debate’ chaired by BBC journalist and broadcaster Rory Cellan-Jones, based on the motion: “This house believes that industries will drive their own transformation through connectivity without the need to be led by the wireless industry.”

Speakers lined up already include: Jon Carter, UK head of Business Development at Deutsche Telekom; Eileen Burbidge, partner, Passion Capital; Steve Leonard, executive deputy chairman, Info-communications Development Authority of Singapore; Geoff McGrath, chief innovation officer at McLaren; Tony Henderson, account director, Operator Channels, Microsoft; Graham Mills, chairman, Commercial Module, DVB; Misha Dohler, co-founder, World Sensing; Justin Peters, CEO and founder, Kabee; Nick Williamson, CEO and founder, Credits; and David Cleevely, co-founder and chairman, Cambridge Angels.

The 8th Future of Wireless International Conference is supported by UK Trade and Investment and The IET, while sponsors include ANSYS and Magna International. More sponsors will be announced shortly.
