A new line of environmental Internet of Things (IoT) sensors has been demonstrated by Zebra Technologies at ProMat 2023, a trade show in Chicago. The vendor’s electronic sensor solution enables companies in sectors like food, pharmaceuticals and life sciences to wirelessly monitor environmentally sensitive products throughout the entire shipping and storing process. It provides cloud-based visibility into a range of environmental factors, including temperature monitoring and moisture detection, says Zebra.
“This technology gives you more visibility throughout the entire supply chain,” comments Zebra CEO, Bill Burns. “With our RFID tag, for example, you can get automated tracking all the way from an item’s manufacture through a distribution centre and into stores right up to the point of sale so you can be sure it was sold and not stolen or lost on the way. That sort of full visibility is how we think of IoT, like a kind of digital voice that provides data insights so you can take action, become more efficient and drive more revenue. Sensors tell you not just where something is in the chain, but whether it’s damaged or not, and provides analytics so you can act in real time if needed.”
