Satellite modem aids M2M on Inmarsat

Quake Global’s Q-Pro satellite data M2M modem has been introduced for use on the Inmarsat network.

The product will let Quake offer its customers low-cost satellite tracking and data services globally over the Inmarsat-4 satellite constellation.

The Q-Pro is a small, rugged, environmentally-sealed satellite and terrestrial telecoms modem with customisation options and a user-friendly application development environment. It will use the recently introduced Isatdata Pro service from Sky Wave.

“Sky Wave commends Quake for their innovation and success in designing the Q-Pro to operate on Isatdata Pro,” said Pui-Ling Chan, CEO and managing director of Sky Wave Mobile Communications. “We are pleased to be associated with Quake as the industry standard for satellite telematics products.

“Our partnership, along with Inmarsat satellites, will deliver high-quality, low cost data communications to OEMs and other industrial and government users.”

When configured for Isatdata Pro, it will download near real-time messages of up to 10kbyte to any device, and send up to 6.4kbyte from the device. This increase in data packet size and transmission speed will allow Quake to meet the increasing demands for higher data capacity and reduced latency in M2M services.

“Quake is proud to partner with Sky Wave and Inmarsat in this historic introduction of a new dimension in the M2M communications market,” said Polina Braunstein, Quake president and CEO.

“Quake knows that it is important to provide just the right solution at the right price for each customer, regardless of their unique needs or size.”

Quake will begin presentations on the new Q-Pro for customers right away, and will deliver the first production modems in early autumn 2011.

“Quake is ideally placed to deliver the benefits of the Isatdata Pro service to the asset tracking market,” said Drew Brandy, director of land services at Inmarsat. “Coming from a company with their experience and market position, this is a strong early endorsement for the service.

“In partnership with Sky Wave, we look forward to seeing the launch of the Q-Pro and introducing new customers to the reliability and global reach of the Inmarsat-4s.”
