Ooma works with Nest to make homes safer and smarter

Ooma®, Inc. smart business and home communications platform, can now officially work with Nest products to help keep homes safe. Ooma has integrated its Ooma Telo home phone service with both the Nest Protect: Smoke + Carbon Monoxide™ alarm and Nest Learning Thermostat™ – making it possible for your home phone to call you when a safety event is detected and enabling you to connect with emergency services using your home phone number and address.

In honor of Ooma’s 10th anniversary, the company is also releasing a limited edition white Telo that complements the look of Nest products.

To join the Works With Nest programme, Ooma’s phone service has undergone extensive testing – resulting in innovative features seamlessly integrated with Nest, including:

  • Voice Notification with 911 option – When Nest Protect detects smoke or CO, Ooma will call a pre-determined phone number (like your cell phone), to let you know how long the alarm has been active and give you the option to connect with emergency services using your home phone number and address so emergency response personnel can expedite response.
  • Check-in Monitoring – Using the occupancy sensors in the Nest Thermostat, the Ooma Telo can detect when people, such as your kids or elderly parents, have arrived home or gotten up in the morning. If these events are not detected within a specified window of time, the Ooma system can call to alert you.
  • Follow Me – The Ooma Telo can automatically forward your home phone calls to your cell phone when your Nest Thermostat is in Away mode and stop forwarding calls when you return home.

“As part of our mission to create new communications experiences, we’re looking at ways to leverage our platform to enhance other connected services and devices,” said Eric Stang, CEO of Ooma. “Telephony is a natural extension to products and services like those of Nest because it gives users the power to be informed and take immediate action. Partnering with an innovative company like Nest is a way for us to add greater value both inside and outside the home.”
