GlobalPlatform has announced the further growth of its membership with the addition of Verimatrix, a specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-network, multi-screen digital TV services around the globe.

As an Observer Member of GlobalPlatform – the organisation which standardises the management of applications on secure chip technology – Verimatrix will focus its attention on the work of the GlobalPlatform Premium Content Task Force. This group is working to determine the industry requirements that need to be addressed to protect premium information and entertainment content on connected devices. The first use case of the task force is protecting the download, decryption and rendering of video content in conjunction with a trusted execution environment (TEE).

Petr Peterka, CTO of Verimatrix, comments: “In the past, the TEE ecosystem has been quite fragmented. GlobalPlatform is working to change that and bring the industry together. The benefits of such collaboration cannot be underestimated as future standardisation and interoperability will be hugely beneficial for the industry. Verimatrix is excited to be a part of GlobalPlatform and to highlight the critical role of the TEE within a robust revenue security strategy. In particular, we are keen to ensure that the TEE can be leveraged to provide strong protection for premium video content that satisfies or exceeds the requirements of content owners, service providers and end-users.”

“Expanding our current TEE specifications to include a robust revenue security programme is a key area of focus for GlobalPlatform and now that more and more services are ‘going mobile’, our work to protect premium content is essential. We are delighted to have Verimatrix on board and we look forward to its contributions towards to the Premium Content Task Force,” concludes Kevin Gillick, executive director of GlobalPlatform.
