The most innovative wearables worldwide have been selected by the international jury of the WT Wearable Technologies Innovation World Cup. More than 500 developers and innovators from around the globe submitted their market-ready wearable solutions in the Sports & Fitness, Healthcare & Wellness, Gaming & Lifestyle, Safety & Security, and Smart Clothing categories. The 22 Innovation World Cup finalists and the 5 designated world champions will become the future stars in wearable technologies. The official award ceremony and announcement of the winners took place at the 14th WT Wearable Technologies Conference.
“With more than 500 market-ready or almost market-ready solutions from 65 countries the WT Innovation World Cup is the leading innovation competition in wearables,” said Andrea Onetti, general manager Volume MEMS & Analog Division, STMicroelectronics. “The results give us great confidence in the creativity and diversity of innovation in wearables and we are already looking forward to the next round of the WT Innovation World Cup to see the future of connected augmented objects.”
And the winners are… “WT Innovator of the Year” is Sendrato Smart Festival Wristbands by Sendrato BV (Netherlands). The jury members were won over by the ease of use, the look-andfeel of the product, and the real-time entertainment features overcoming communication bottlenecks at huge events.
“Sports & Fitness” Champion: StretchSense by StretchSense Ltd. (New Zealand). StretchSense fabric sensors disappear into garments while providing accurate measurements of motion. Finalists Sports & Fitness: Heddoko, Mio Global (for Mio FUSE), Notch Interfaces Inc., Sentrix Technology Ltd. (for MYOVOLT).
“Healthcare & Wellness” Champion: dermoPatch by Feeligreen (France) is a skin-based wearable with the potential to revolutionise the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. It is an electronically controlled medical device designed to actively diffuse drugs through the skin. Finalists Healthcare & Wellness: Bioserenity (for WEMU), BitBite, UpRight, Winmedical (for WinPack).
“Safety & Security” Champion: Tech-Air by Alpinestars Inc. (Italy) is the world´s most technologically advanced electronic airbag system for motorcycle riders. Finalists Safety & Security: Baseband Technology Inc. (for battery-friendly GPS for wearables), Firecam (for Oncall body cameras), First-Mile UG (for ProGlove), Ulocs (for Ispopod). “Gaming & Lifestyle” Champion: Sendrato Smart Festival Wristbands by Sendrato BV. Finalists Gaming & Lifestyle: iCradle (for COBI), Deus Ex Technology (for WEES), Omate (for Lutetia and Omate X), Tactonics LLC (for TACTspace).
Winner of “Special Prize Smart Clothing”: With Sensoria Fitness Socks by Sensoria (USA) runners gain actionable real-time feedback on how fast, how far, and on how well they run. Finalist Smart Clothing: Bar Ilan University (for FabriXense)
