Shihlin prepares for smart grid roll out

Shihlin Electric showed its SW3005 smart meter at this week’s Taitronics electronics exhibition in Taipei, Taiwan, as it prepares to compete when Taipower starts its smart grid programme.

“This is still new to the users,” said Owen Hsu (pictured), a specialist in Shihlin ‘s marketing support department. “We have made it for Taipower and private users.”

The SW3005 provides power measuring, electricity rate setting and long-time load recording. Communications are via RS232 or RS485. Accuracy is in accordance with IEC 62053-11 and Ansi C12.20.

However, Hsu said there was no date yet as to when the roll out would start but it would be soon, and he acknowledged that the company would not have the market to itself.

“Three or four major companies in Taiwan are making smart meters,” he said.

Some private users already have the meter, which has an input current from 100 to 480V AC and provides two-way kW/hr measuring. Operating temperature is -30 to +70˚C and it has a ten-year life guarantee.

Four rates of charge can be adjusted according to season and date.

It measures 19.2 by 23.6 by 14.6cm and weighs 2.1kg.
