Silver Spring Networks (NYSE: SSNI) announced that is has been selected by New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) to deploy its multi-application network across the city for a comprehensive Dynamic Metering Infrastructure program supporting both electricity and water services. The Silver Spring smart grid networking platform will help New Braunfels Utilities control costs, improve outage response, enhance customer communications, and deliver expanded energy and water services to its customers.

New Braunfels Utilities is a municipally owned utility that delivers electricity, water, and wastewater services for more than 60,000 residents of New Braunfels, a fast growing city along the Austin-to-San Antonio Interstate-35 corridor in central Texas.

“NBU is expanding rapidly and we wanted to deploy a scalable network platform that allows us to deliver benefits today, while also establishing a foundation for new concepts for our community and customers in the future,“ said Trino Pedraza, NBU Systems Technology Manager. “We deliver a range of energy and water services to customers, so a platform that combines high performance with reliability, cost-effectiveness, and support for multiple applications was crucial in our selection.”

“We’re proud to deploy a multi-application, citywide network with NBU to help unlock the broad benefits of networked infrastructure for their electricity and water customers,” said Eric Dresselhuys, EVP of Global Sales, Marketing and Development, Silver Spring Networks. “We applaud New Braunfel’s vision and their commitment to creating the most modern solutions to address their operational and customer service needs and for positioning NBU for even greater value in the future.”

Silver Spring delivers a ready-to-deploy Municipal and Cooperative Utility solution that makes it easy to rapidly scope and deploy sophisticated Advanced Metering Infrastructure for electricity, water, and natural gas customers, Demand Response, Distribution Automation, and other critical infrastructure and smart city applications over time.
