Kamstrup delivers 100,000 smart electricity meters to Norwegian alliance

AMS Nord, an alliance of six power utilities in Troms and Finnmark, has chosen Kamstrup as the supplier of 100,000 smart electricity meters. Installation of the meters will begin in 2016 continue for two years.

After a competition and negotiation process, AMS Nord has chosen the OMNIA Suite solution from Kamstrup, the leading Scandinavian supplier of metering solutions. In addition to smart electricity meters, the solution includes a communication system between the meters and the central data collection system.

AMS Nord will carry out a pilot project in the six supply areas in the second and third quarter of 2016, which will include between 1,000 and 2,000 metering points. The pilot project will then be carefully evaluated before the roll out of 100,000 new smart meters in the third quarter of 2016.

“We are looking forward to providing a solution that frees our customers from having to read their electricity meter manually and enables billing based on the actual consumption. Kamstrup distinguished themselves by competitive prices as well as by the quality of the smart meters and the data collection system”, says Per-Erik Ramstad, Manager of the AMS Nord Steering Committee.

High class metering solution

In the previous months, Kamstrup has signed several agreements with Norwegian power utilities, OMNIPOWERincluding Agder Energi Nett, Smart Strøm Nordvest and Dalane Energi. The agreement with AMS Nord supports Kamstrup’s position as the leading supplier of smart metering solutions in Scandinavia. It also proves that Kamstrup is the preferred partner for power utilities who demand optimal integration between electricity, water and heat supply and existing metering systems.

“We are proud to deliver a system with the highest metering performance and the best integration on the market. AMS Nord will obtain great value from this investment and they can reduce their costs and risks already from day one”, says Kamstrup’s Norwegian Sales Manager Per-Otto Lie.
