OPC Foundation and M2M Alliance sign deal to improve end-to-end security solutions

Prof. Dr. Axel Sikora, member of the board, M2M Alliance

The OPC Foundation and the M2M Alliance e.V., said to be the largest professional M2M association in Europe, will be working together to help clients building the M2M and IoT world by connecting leading industry players and promoting latest technologies and solutions. At the SPS/IPC/Drives Fair Thomas J. Burke, president and executive director of the OPC Foundation and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Sikora, member of the Board of the M2M Alliance e.V. signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The overall goal is the integration of end-to-end security from smallest embedded devices vertically into IT enterprise but also horizontally between devices and services.

“It is becoming more and more important to adapt the well-established solutions from other M2M-application domains, like health-card or smart metering, to the special requirements of industrial automation”, said  Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Sikora, member of the board of the M2M Alliance e.V.

“The cooperation between OPC Foundation and M2M Alliance e.V. is Win-Win for members of both organisations,” said Stefan Hoppe, vice president of OPC Foundation. “M2M Alliance has strong expertise integrating security into devices in domains like smart metering while OPC UA delivers interoperability independent from domains.”

Since 1996, the OPC Foundation has facilitated the development and adoption of the OPC information exchange standards. As both advocate and custodian of these specifications, the Foundation’s mission is to help industry vendors, end-users, and software developers maintain interoperability in their manufacturing and automation assets.

The OPC Foundation is dedicated to providing the best specifications, technology, process and certification to achieve multivendor, multiplatform, secure, reliable interoperability in industrial automation and related domains. The organisation serves over 440 members worldwide in the Industrial Automation, IT, IoT, Building Automation, Oil & Gas and Smart Energy sectors.
