Autodata’s catalogue of automotive data on 80 car makers now open to developers

Autodata has completed its most prolific batch of application programming interfaces (APIs), opening the door for a range of new possibilities for developers in the business-to-business (B2B) and consumer automotive markets.

Working with TIBCO Mashery®, the Autodata Developer Portal now allows access to more than 70 APIs covering Autodata’s diagnostic, repair and servicing information across 80 vehicle manufacturers.

All of the APIs are constantly and instantly updated without the need for developers to make any changes and delivered in a low maintenance, highly reliable environment.

Autodata chief technology officer, Neil Brooks, who featured in last year’s CIO 100, said: “Over the past year we have managed to establish a seamless process that has allowed us to pass APIs through the Alpha and Beta stages to launch extremely efficiently and we are delighted to now be in a position where the vast majority of our content is available for businesses to integrate Autodata within their own solutions.

“We have already worked with a select group of companies and developers who required integration with some of our early APIs and the results have been extremely successful. The feedback from developers is that our portal is intuitive and packaged in logical and well-structured modules.” Brooks added, “In growth terms, we are now receiving around 11 million API data calls on a weekly basis and we expect this figure to rise significantly over the next 12 months.”

Brad Simmons, CEO at ClearMechanic, one of the first businesses to benefit from the Autodata API, said: “Connecting with the API was an incredibly easy process and delivered the exact solution we required. Our customers now have access to the most comprehensive, reliable and accurate technical information available.”

Chris Lippi, VP and CTO of Cloud at TIBCO, added: “Data is at the core of the majority of products and applications within the automotive aftermarket industry sector. Autodata has chosen the TIBCO Mashery API management solution to deliver the scale, security, and simplicity needed to drive their business into the digital space.

“As the world becomes more connected, we are going to see an increased demand for this content throughout the industry; and with a comprehensive range of over 29,000 models we expect the Autodata API to power many of these applications and products in the future.”
