MultiTech launches handheld LoRa end-point device and LoRa® proof of concept developer board

Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. announced the availability of MultiConnect® mDot™ Box, a portable, handheld LoRa® end-point device ideal for LoRa site surveys, and MultiConnect® mDot™ EVB, a developer board perfect for rapid LoRa proof of concept creation.

These flexible devices reportedly provide the user with multiple modes to quickly evaluate how LoRa can help solve a wide range of IoT needs and requirements.

The MTDOT-BOX and MTDOT-EVB feature LEDs via a LCD display screen showing temperature, ambient light, pressure, electrical current, and an accelerometer. The MTDOT-BOX comes standard with GPS to enable site surveys and location-based proof of concept testing. It can be used purely as a communications device or programmed with a custom application using the integrated ARM® mbed™ enabled programmable mDot.MTDOT-BOX_clear_hp_Large

“A major benefit for both MultiTech’s MTDOT-BOX and MTDOT-EVB is the unique ability to quickly develop and test LoRa end-point functionality seamlessly, without the need for heavy configuration or embedded design skills,” said Derek Wallace, manager, Product Management at MultiTech. “These revolutionary devices will quickly and cost-effectively assist the market with validating LoRa IoT applications and proof of concepts for virtually any industrial vertical market. A sampling of ideal use cases includes agriculture, energy, building automation, and smart cities.”

The MTDOT-BOX and MTDOT-EVB are easy to use and provide a wealth of valuable information such as location, spreading factor, throughput, time and date activity, and power level usage. LoRa Demo, Interval, and Trigger modes allow you to gather, view, and consume data from site surveys or proof of concept performance in multiple ways, including on these devices or in your preferred cloud platform. Developed for interoperability, these devices will work with LoRaWAN compliant gateways, including MultiTech’s MultiConnect® Conduit™, the industry’s most configurable, manageable, and scalable communications gateway.

LoRa is a wireless technology developed to enable low data rate communications over long distances utilising sensors and actuators for M2M and IoT applications. It is particularly attractive for many applications because of its long-range capability, ability to enable battery operated assets to function for years, and its low cost/high ROI benefits.

MultiTech designs, develops and manufactures communications equipment for the industrial internet of things – connecting physical assets to business processes to deliver enhanced value.
