Weqool chooses forge by Xura for immersive social experience in fitness app

Xura, Inc.’s forge by Xura platform is reported to have been used to provide real-time communication capabilities within new social fitness app, Weqool.

Forge’s RTC features enable Weqool to incorporate a combination of video and instant messaging interfaces, allowing users to meet, communicate, compete and grow friendships while exercising together virtually.

Xura partner, Blacc Spot Media, a leading WebRTC, mobile and web application development house, worked with Weqool to create a web-based prototype, utilising forge by Xura, to meet their aim of creating a more social and immersive fitness experience, through the use of real time communication functionality.

Weqool provides an interactive, user-friendly social platform designed to enable users to watch recorded workouts created by professional fitness trainers within the app, while also facilitating positive social interactions amongst its users via video call, instant messaging and SMS.

Forge by Xura was selected as the most ideal platform to use based on Blacc Spot Media’s experience, due to its scalability, ease of implementation and its range of secure, click-to-communicate capabilities, such as video calls which is a major feature of the Weqool app.

“As a developer, it is essential to have a reliable and scalable solution that can be implemented quickly and easily,” said Lantre Barr, founder & CEO, Blacc Spot Media. “This is even more important to start ups trying to get new apps off the ground. We have worked with other clients to utilise the forge platform to transform the experience of their apps, and enjoy the versatility it can offer to enhance interactions and user engagement.”

Alex Bulley, co-founder of Weqool commented, “Our aim is to reinvent the concept of online fitness, by facilitating positive interactions among users with common interests through the medium of unique Weqool experiences, to make exercising more fun, engaging and social, regardless of where you are at that moment. It has been a very exciting journey to bring our proof of concept to life. The combination of Blacc Spot Media’s exceptional development expertise and forge by Xura’s RTC capabilities, have helped get our product to market quickly, allowing us to validate our concept prior to an official launch. While this is the first step with the web-based prototype, we are working to raise early stage funding to explore several new skills and activities which bring users together in a socially collaborative and mutually beneficial way.”

The Weqool prototype was showcased for the first time during the Getting Real with RTC demo event at TMC’s Real Time Web Solutions Conference in New York, on August 3. For those who couldn’t make it in person, you can watch a video of the Weqool app here. As key sponsors of the event, the forge by Xura team will be presenting a keynote session, as well as be on hand throughout with an exhibit space to show and discuss the latest capabilities of forge by Xura, which were announced earlier this week.

By signing up, activating an account and joining the forge community, enterprises and developers can enhance the experience of their app or pioneer new services, while growing and managing engagement opportunities by implementing real-time, secure peer-to-peer, one-to-many and group interaction.
