Cinterion, a global provider of cellular M2M communication and a Gemalto (Euronext NL 0000400653 GTO) company, has announced that its PH8 and PHS8 M2M modules have passed the Pre-Approval testing on AT&T’s 4th Generation HSPA+ wireless network, thereby shortening M2M device makers’ product approval time.

With AT&T’s Pre-Approval and Full Type Approval in place, these flagship Cinterion modules aim to help wireless solution developers in North America bring 4G machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions to market faster and more cost efficiently. PH8 and PHS8 (pictured) development kits and commercial production modules are available immediately.

In a separate development, Psion, a leader in ruggedised handheld computers, has begun integrating the PH8 module into its industrial personal digital assistant (PDA). The Psion EP10 is reported to be immediately available for enterprise customers across North America.

The modules provide a confirmed footprint migration to 4G LTE networks, and are designed to enable a wide range of high-bandwidth M2M applications such as ruggedised PDAs, video surveillance, remote monitoring, advanced security solutions and more.

Cinterion’s ultra slim modules are designed for secure and reliable communications across all AT&T networks. Offering integrated GPS, advanced voice technology and an option for flexible Land Grid Array surface mounting, users are already integrating these Cinterion modules for data-intensive M2M applications that require 4G speeds and functionality. In addition, both modules share a common footprint with the LTE roadmap, providing a seamless migration path to evolving next generation wireless technology.

“Global mobile network operators are continually advancing networks toward 4G technologies and beyond. M2M developers need high quality modules that can reliably operate across varied wireless technologies to assure the longevity required for M2M solutions,” said Norbert Muhrer, Cinterion’s CEO. “Cinterion’s PH8 and PHS8 give our customers a competitive advantage in introducing next-generation 4G M2M solutions, and they are ready for operation on the AT&T HSPA+ network.”

Cinterion, the M2M division of Gemalto (Euronext NL 0000400653 GTO), is a pioneer of wireless M2M communications. The company enables businesses to succeed in a complex M2M ecosystem by offering expertise, security, simplicity and partnership. Cinterion’s award-winning products and services connect people, machines, equipment and vehicles over wireless networks, helping enterprises simplify operations, increase efficiency and establish new business models. Equipment makers, integrators, mobile network operators (MNOs), and end-users use Cinterion’s wireless M2M communication modules, Machine Identification Modules (MIMs), MIM personalisation capabilities plus a trusted and secure, cloud-based Service Delivery Platform for any M2M application. Cinterion powers cellular communications for: telematics and automotive applications, tracking and tracing, industrial mobile computing, metering and smart grid, payment systems, healthcare, security systems, routers and gateways, remote maintenance and control and more.
